A Hollywood-style road block is surrounding Castle Combe while Steven Spielberg films his latest blockbuster in the village.

Security is tight in the village near Chippenham, with the public made to stand by barriers on either side of the village, only allowed to walk through quickly when there are breaks in the filming of War Horse.

Resident Jacqui Middleton, whose home was decorated with fake wisteria for the production, said: “I think it’s all been very well-managed and the location crew are particularly nice. They’ve made sure all the residents are well catered for. It’s quite interesting to see it all coming together and how the crews are managing everybody.”

Although there were no sightings of the stars, Emily Watson or David Thewlis, director Spielberg was spotted standing behind a camera on the Market Cross.

Several additions to Castle Combe have also been spotted – the water trough by the church appeared to be genuine until a visitor sat on it and discovered it was made of rubber and fibre glass.

Security around the village is now so tight that tourists are not allowed in with cameras.

A resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It makes me so angry that I can’t take my car out of my drive. The level of security is ridiculous. I’m ready for them to leave now.”
