A Wiltshire Rotarian is inviting budding detectives to try and solve her murder mystery in aid of Help for Heroes.

Rotarian Susan Hill-Bird has written her first murder mystery, which will take place at Chantry Court Retirement Village in Westbury on October 30 at 7pm.

The event, which will take place at the estate of Lady Beatrice Bountifull, will star Rotarians from the Westbury branch in full costume and character.

Mrs Hill-Bird, who has been a member of the Westbury branch since April, said: “I started on it in July and I came up with four plots that I thought would work.

“The event will be interactive, with guests invited to pursue their suspects, quiz them, form opinions, examine the evidence and compete to discover who is the murderer.

“Some guests will be given roles on arrival. They can take part as little or as much as they want.

“We want you to be fully involved in the experience so please come in character. Dress is smart casual or as formal as you feel is comfortable.”

The evening, which will cost £20 per person and will include a glass of wine and two-course meal, will raise money for Help for Heroes and The Rotary Charitable Foundation, which supports many international causes.

Mrs Hill-Bird, who has also organised a raffle at the event, wanted half of the money go to Help For Heroes because of the county’s strong connection with the army.

“We feel Help For Heroes is the charity of the moment,” she said. “We do an awful lot of work in far-flung places.

“For example we raised money for the floods in Pakistan and the earthquake in Haiti but we wanted this event to raise money for a local charity.

“The money will stay in the UK and help our local boys and girls who have come back from places like Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The evening will include a free dinner.
