Melksham man Ted Tayler has raised more than £400 for Help For Heroes after foregoing presents on his birthday in favour of donations to the charity.

Mr Tayler has just turned 65, and last Friday held a birthday party at Melksham House to celebrate.

Instead of presents, Mr Tayler asked guests to donate to Help For Heroes.

Around 90 guests attended the Melksham House party and more than £400 was raised.

Mr Tayler said: “The final donation will be well in excess of the £500 target we set so that’s fantastic.

“Thanks to Melksham House for the excellent food, the two DJs who came up with most of the songs on my playlist and my wife for the cake, but mostly to those who attended for their best wishes, their company and their generosity.

“With more than 4,000 casualties in Afghanistan, Help for Heroes needs all the support we can give them.”
