Wiltshire people are gearing up for street parties across the county to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

As the deadline for applications for street parties closed today, Wiltshire Council announced that more than 65 parties are set to take place over what promises to be a fun-filled four-day weekend from June 2-5.

Corsham Town Council is celebrating by holding a fete between noon and 4pm at Springfield Rec on Saturday, June 2. There will be live music, dancing, a falconry display, a dog show, sporting activities for children and radio-controlled aeroplanes.

There will also be a variety of refreshments available in the street party area, which will include a bar, hog roast and crepes.

In Box, a jubilee event will be running from Friday, June 1, until Tuesday, June 5, in the recreation ground, which will house a large marquee.

The celebrations will begin on the evening of Friday, June 1, with live music and a hog roast in the marquee.

Throughout the long weekend there will be a full programme of events, including a tea dance and a barn dance, with festivities coming to a close with a picnic on Tuesday, June 5.

Foresters Park, off Foresters Park Road, in Melksham, has been renamed the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field to celebrate the Queen’s 60th year on the throne. Melksham Town Council is hoping to host a party on June 16, the Queen’s official birthday this year.

The council is issuing a survey to residents in the area to make sure they are keen on the idea before anything is arranged.

In Trowbridge on Monday, June 4, there will be a party on Lavender Close from noon-6pm.

In Warminster Park, a Picnic in the Park will be held on June 3 with the Army Wives Choir, followed by an evening of entertainment in the Civic Centre. On June 4 there will be fireworks in Imber Road.

A Big Lunch street party will be held in Heytesbury High Street on June 3 to celebrate the jubilee, with tug-of-war, cake competitions and more.

Plans to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in Sutton Veny include a 1950s-style dance in the village hall on June 4, and a street party the next day.

In Westbury a street fair will be held on June 2 with rides and entertainment, and the next day there will be a church service in the Market Place and an over-60s tea dance in the Paragon Hall.

On June 4 there will be a children’s fancy dress street party, and in the evening events include Westbury’s Got Talent and the lighting of the beacon.

Bratton’s Jubilee Players will be performing Oh What A Jubilee! at the village hall on April 20-21. There will be a tea dance and Last Night of the Proms on June 2.

Dilton Marsh will celebrate the jubilee alongside its annual carnival on June 4 from 11.30am-3.30pm, with floats, games and bouncy castles.

The event will also include the Dilton Olympics, a beer tent and live music, as well as the judging of the village’s own carnival royalty.
