Melksham's Labour Club shut down this week, to make way for a re-fit and refurbishment over the summer months.

The club, in Lowbourne, is looking to sell the residential portion of the premises for conversion into flats and hopes to invest the money raised in updating the club building.

Trustee Heather Thomas said: “We have a slump in the summer, anyway, and with Wetherspoon opening across the road, we’re closing down now and giving it a good gutting and clean and bringing it up-to-date. We’re looking to reopen in August, ready for the skittles, darts and everything.”

Members are invited to a meeting at the club on May 1 at 8pm to discuss the refit plans.
