Corsham School reported their best GCSE results, with 80 per cent of students getting five A to C grades.

However, in common with many other schools across the country, Corsham students have experienced unexpectedly disappointing results in English language exams and headteacher Martin Williams said they will be appealing the results.

He refused to give the percentage of pupils achieving the benchmark A* to C grades, including maths and English, until the appeal is determined.

Marcus Chapman, deputy headteacher, said overall the results are the best of their kind. “The proportion of A* and A grades has gone up to 24 per cent,” he said. “The other figure that really stands out is that 27 per cent of students are getting three As or 3 A*.

“This builds on last week’s incredible A-level performance which saw 26 per cent of students get A* and A grades and 53 per cent get A*, A or B grades.”

Among the top performers were Blu Borgstron who achieved B English Lang, A Eng Lit, A* French, A History, B RE, B Art, A Core Science, B Additional Science, A Maths.

I want to study Eng Literature and Eng Language, French and Psychology at the Corsham sixth form with a view to going to study English Literature and Theatre at university.”
