Melksham Oak School celebrated its best ever GCSE performance this morning when students collected their results.
In total 53 per cent achieving five A* to C grades including English and maths, and 80 per cent overall getting at least five A* to C grades.
Steve Clark, headteacher, said: “These results are 12 per cent above the government targets and they are a reflection of the hard work and commitment of students, teachers and governors. I’m really proud.
“This is the third year running that we are in the top 23 per cent of schools in the country for value added and is a reflection of our ongoing transformation into a centre of excellence for learning and being a great school for our community.”
Among the high achievers was Tyler Pattenden, who earned eight A*s, two As and a merit in ICT.
He said: “I can’t believe it. I’m so surprised. I didn’t think I’d done this well, I didn’t expect so many As. I thought there would be a couple of Bs. I’m just in shock really. “
Tyler, 16, didn’t have much time to let the results sink in as he was heading straight to Swindon where he was due to perform in a youth theatre production of West Side Story last night at the Wyvern Theatre. He will now go into Melksham Oak’s sixth form.
Abby Goulding, 16, achieved six A*s, three As and two B grades as well as a Distinction and Merit for ICT. She said: “I’m very happy. I didn’t expect that many A*s. Last night I wasn’t that nervous because there wasn’t anything I could do but I just wanted to hurry up and find out.
"I’m going to spend the day out with my friends and celebrate.”
Abby will study business economics, English language, English literature and psychology in sixth form.
