MORE DETAILS about the plan for Melksham’s new community campus will be discussed at a special Melksham Area Board on October 10.

The board will meet at Seend Community Centre at 7pm for an update on the multi-million pound project to create the campus at Melksham House.

The site will include a leisure centre, swimming pool, youth centre and library to replace existing facili- ties in the town.

The project will also see Melksham Town FC and Melksham RFC move from Melksham House to custom-built facilities at Woolmore Farm and Dunch Lane respectively.

The future of sites including Christie Miller Sports Centre, earmarked to become business land, the former George Ward School and the Canberra Youth Club will also be discussed.

Details may also be released about the council’s budget for the project, about which it has been tight-lipped so far.

A budget for a campus at Woolmore Farm was £23m, but with the relocation to Melksham House, which cost the council £250,000, and additional costs resulting from that move, it is now likely to be considerably higher.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We are committed to ensuring everyone in the community has the opportunity to have their say on the campus, and we will be holding a special area board meeting on October 10 to discuss more details.

“Currently, we have only asked an architect to let us know what can feasibly be delivered on the site, and how best to deliver it. There has been no request for detailed plans.”

The meeting is open to the public and tea and coffee will be served from 6.30pm.
