Ideas are being sought to showcase the heritage of Westbury in a medieval-style tent as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Salisbury.

The town, and its surrounding villages, will have a tent to fill in the cathedral grounds as part of the May 1 celebrations, in preparation for a royal visit.

John Bush, a local resident who recently retired as Lord Lieutenant, came up with the idea for the event and has invited each community area within Wiltshire to take part.

The spotlight for the Westbury area will be the Wiltshire White Horses with particular focus on its own famous hill figure.

There will also be the opportunity for schools and community groups to get involved in producing a timeline showcasing local history.

Anyone interested in playing a part in the event is invited to working group on Thursday at 5pm in the All Saints Church parish hall, Edward Street.

“We are really looking forward to hearing what ideas people come up with and involving as many local residents as possible” said Westbury Area Board chairman Julie Swabey.

Contact community area manager Sally Hendry for more information, or if you cannot attend the meeting but would still like to contribute ideas, on 01373 864714 or email sally.hendry@wiltshire.gov.uk.
