To celebrate the Queens Diamond Jubilee, a heritage bus service will be running on Monday, June 4 from Warminster, across Salisbury Plain and through the village of Imber, to Market and West Lavington.
The service will be operated by iconic red London double deck Routemaster buses and will leave Warminster Station every half hour during the morning and afternoon.
The route will travel across Salisbury Plain over roads that are normally closed to the general public to the deserted village of Imber, where the church will be open.
Imber village was evacuated in 1943 by the Army to allow the area to be used as a training area, and other than for a few days each year has been out of bounds ever since.
The church remains and has many interesting features.
The route continues up on to Salisbury Plain again meeting the Devizes to Salisbury road at Gore Cross.
The buses will then serve a number of places such as Market and West Lavington, Tilshead, New Zealand Farm Camp and Brazen Bottom on the Plain above Market Lavington.
A £5 day ticket allows a day to be spent exploring this fascinating area from the top deck of a bus, stopping of wherever visitors wish.
