Another haulage firm was prosecuted this week thanks to the Bradford on Avon Lorry Watch scheme.
Moran Logistics Ltd pleaded guilty to two offences of exceeding the 18 tonne weight restriction on Bradford on Avon Town Bridge.
The firm was fined £1,500 plus costs at Chippenham Magistrates Court.
This is the third prosecution as a direct result of the Lorry Watch scheme and the work of its volunteers. It follows a long-running campaign during which Lorry Watch volunteers have become a familiar sight in Bradford on Avon’s town centre.
The scheme, which started last year, sees volunteers working with Bradford on Avon Council and Wiltshire Council to monitor vehicles infringing the weight limit on the Town Bridge.
Keith Humphries, cabinet member for public health and protection services, said: “This is yet another positive result for the Lorry Watch scheme. The volunteers are doing a fantastic job in their efforts to curb this problem in the town.
“We hope this action will once again send a very clear message to haulage companies and drivers.”
Dick Tonge, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "The diligent volunteers are a great example of what a community can accomplish when tackling local issues. I thank them again for their efforts”
Lorry Watch co-ordinator Stephanie Ridout said " Hopefully the regularity of the prosecutions shows that this will be a permanent ongoing campaign, and hauliers need to keep their drivers informed of these prosecutions. "That and the new signs that are almost complete around Bradford and the surrounding towns and villages, means this will see a reduction in the persistant offenders. Lorry watch continues into the New Year with the same vigour as always.
