Bradford on Avon Rotary club has supported a young musician from St Laurence School who has reached the finals of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland Young Musician 2013.

Katey Rylands, 13, from Westbury, won the district finals of the competition in November, after being picked by the rotary club to compete, before going on to win the regional finals in April.

Katey said: “I’m feeling very excited but nervous about it all.

“I have been giving my voice a break because it has been used a lot over the last month but I will be practising with my singing teacher.”

She goes on to the finals on Saturday in Dartford, Kent, where she will compete against eight vocalists by singing three contrasting pieces of music.

Richard Stratford, Bradford on Avon Rotary Club youth community chairman, has supported Katey since he started his search at St Laurence School for a young musician.

He has watched her compete in both heats and said: “She has competed so well and the judge said her voice was exceptional for her age.”

Katey said: “The rotary club has been brilliant and will be cheering me on in the finals along with my parents.”

Katey, a mezzo soprano, also attends South West Music School, has private signing lessons and wants to be an opera singer.
