A troupe of young actors are preparing to get their first professional show on the road, after contributing ideas to the script.

Youngsters at the Charac-ters Stage School in Bradford on Avon came up with ideas for the script for Faceless, the tale of a young girl in 2045 who rebels against a society where mobile phones have taken over.

The 15 members of the group attended a series of workshop sessions with writer and former West End casting director Moira Townsend Williams.

She said: “Once we had all the ideas down I went away and started writing it up into a play.

“Some of the characters were created by the children, so it’s quite an unusual way of working.

“They’ve taken things to extremes, getting creative about life in a world where people can’t live without their phones.

“In one scene, a bride is checking her online status on her phone while getting married.”

Now the script is ready to go the group is looking for sponsorship, and is appealing to local businesses to support the project.

An online page has been set up to accept funds, in return for rewards.

Ms Townsend Williams said: “We want to give the children their first experience of real theatre so we need to provide talented set designers, costumes and lighting.

“People can just put a fiver in to to get their name on the programme, or there is the big one to get a meal at The Castle, Bradford on Avon, who have donated two meals for two.”

The show takes place at Trowbridge’s Arc Theatre on July 6 and 7.
