BLOOMS of snowdrops were at the centre of attention for visitors to Chalfield Manor yesterday (Feb 8) when Dorothy House Hospice Care hosted their annual Snowdrops day.

The Winsley-based hospice along with Robert and Patsy Floyd, who live at the National Trust property, put on the afternoon tea event which is known to attract crowds to visit stunning winter gardens and flower displays.

This year, 425 people attended the event which managed to raise £2,259 for the hospice and their support to patients and their families.

Yvonne Brunton, community fundraiser at Dorothy House, said: “It was a brilliant afternoon and we couldn’t have had better weather. The backdrop of Great Chalfield Manor is the most beautiful setting for the snowdrops to welcome in spring.”

“It was great to see so many people enjoying an afternoon in the sunshine and supporting Dorothy House at the same time. Thanks to both Robert and Patsy Floyd and the National Trust for allowing us to use such a wonderful venue.”

An added attraction to this year’s event is that many visitors would have recognised the scenery of the 15th Century manor featured in the BBC’s adaptation of Wolf Hall, the fictionalised biography of Thomas Cromwell.
