PEOPLE of Bradford on Avon were left disappointed with the cancellation of the annual Duck Race this morning (Monday 28).
The event was cancelled due to the River Avon proving too dangerous to stage the race after weather conditions have caused the river to rise and flow too fast.
John Potter, Bradford on Avon Town Councillor, said: "I am so disappointed that the race has been cancelled but the river is so fast and very dangerous. It is such a shame, we are going to stage the race on the May bank holiday if we can.
"We tried to see if we could hold it but the ducks would just be washed away, there would be 600-700 that would end up in Avoncliff. This is a rare occasion but we will not give up."
As well as the cancellation of the duck race, there are also concerns over the nesting swan that had taken up residence by the Town Bridge.
"We are also worried about the swan, it had just made its nest by the bridge and it was just washed away. It had just layed a couple of eggs and then this happened. We can only hope that it will return soon," added Coun Potter.
