GLAMOUR was the name and St Laurence's Year 11 prom at Bradford on Avon's Cumberwell Park was the game on Tuesday, June 28.

Nearly 190 feverishly excited pupils descended upon the venue for their big send off, arriving in a vast array of transportation such as makeshift fire engines and ambulances, limousines and open top cars.

This was the 15th time the school has staged the event at Cumberwell Park and organiser and Head of Key Stage 4 at the school, Chris Dutton, said it was a resounding success once again.

"It was another fantastic evening, a pleasure to be involved with and best of all, everyone seemed to love it," said Mr Dutton.

"One teacher overheard one girl saying, 'This was the best night of my life.' When you hear things like that it makes all the preparations and planning extremely worthwhile.

"Some of the outfits were brilliant and so was the transport to get there. People really pulled out all the stops to enjoy themselves - a fair amount of time and effort went into it all to look the part.

"Unfortunately the weather was not the best but it did not dampen their spirits in the slightest, the 40 or so staff had a great time too."

Those present were treated to a Year 11 live band, a disco, a photo booth, a buffet and then a firework display to bring the night to a close with a resounding bang.

"It was pretty spectacular and a great way to cap it all off really and the band was a very popular choice as they were one of their own," said Mr Dutton, who has been chief organiser for the event for the past three years.

"The venue was once again perfect, the staff were very helpful and it all ran really smoothly which was a relief.

"I would like to say a big thank you as well to the parents association at the school who played a huge part in making this happen.

"Thanks to their efforts they raised £800 towards this from a fashion school in January and for that we are very grateful."

The Year 13 prom will take place at the same venue on Tuesday, July 5.
