IT WAS the end of an era for year 13 pupils at St Laurence School but not without one last hurrah with their prom at Bradford on Avon’s Cumberwell Park on July 5.

Approximately 120 pupils and 30 staff piled into the venue, which was used by the school's Year 13's for the first time, for their final farewell from 6.30-11.30pm.

Those present were treated to canapes, a two-course dinner, a garden reception, a magic show, a DJ, a photo booth and a firework show in what was a night to remember.

Director of the sixth form, Will Penny, was full of praise for the outgoing pupils for their dedication during their time at the school.

"It was a wonderful culmination of seven years of hard work at school and one that was a hugely successful and enjoyable evening," he said.

"Everyone had a cracking time and it was great send off to a very special group of pupils. It was a real celebration of their time here and I know many staff will be sad to see them go.

"They have been such a big help for younger pupils and a superb role model for many of them. The school community is worse off without them but they are better people for being here."

For over a year, preparations for their send off event started and finished with the pupil ball committee, which raised over £1,500 from events such as cake sales, drama shows and barbecues.

"It was one of the best ones we have had for sure, a real treat for everyone," he said.

"You have to take your hat off to the organising team. They have planned this so well and so meticulously to go off in style.

"Everyone looked great, the venue was top notch and the Cumberwell staff were outstanding so I want to say a big thank you to them and we look forward to coming back next year for the Year 12's prom.

"We are all very proud of what they have achieved during their time here, be it from Year 7 or from Year 12 and we wish them the best of luck in the future."

The pupils will return in December for their presentation event.
