PUPILS of Winsley Primary School are nurtured and taught with an ethos to grow and be kind to one another through their interactions with fellow children.

The school, which has 160 pupils spread across six classes, prides itself on its ethos and its drive to build on an already outstanding Ofsted rating.

Rebecca Wilson, head teacher of Winsley for the past four years, has seen the school grow and go from strength to strength.

Mrs Wilson said: “When I started at the school we only had 112 pupils, now we have 160 and we have added an extra class. At Winsley we encourage children to persevere, be resilient and to respect one another. We have four Christian values which the children helped to come up with. They are respect, compassion, friendship and kindness. Our school motto is sowing the seeds of wonder, where we learn, celebrate and achieve.”

Since the school’s last Ofsted inspection in 2011, where Winsley was awarded an outstanding rating, the school still strives to further its abilities.

“We haven’t had an inspection since 2011. When you are given an outstanding then you don’t usually get another inspection without a trigger. We haven’t become complacent about it, we still continue to better the school and the pupils,” added Mrs Wilson.

Winsley also prides itself on the outdoor learning area which was paid for by its parent and teacher association.

“We have our outdoor classroom, to the untrained eye it would look like a bus shelter, but it is a space where the children can learn, have circle time and enjoy the outdoors. I think the children are at the heart of what we do and we focus on the individual and their family to try and offer a rounded learning experience for them when they are at Winsley,” Mrs Wilson said.
