LAST-minute preparations are underway at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon as they get ready to showcase their production of Macbeth.

Around 100 students from all year groups are to appear in the production, which will be performed in the Trinity Hall at the school tonight and tomorrow at 7pm.

Set in an American-Italian diner, their take on the classic Shakespeare play is fun, fresh and original.

Simon White, head of the drama department, said: "We have chosen to do this play as we feel it is relevant to now and people need to know the consequences of their actions, especially when it comes to control and relationships. It's a story that needs to be told. But we have done this in a fun way, which is not based on its normal context.

"The murderers who are usually played by males are played by females in our production. Effectively we have reversed Shakespeare's concept of having men playing women. We have also taken the violence from the original play and portrayed that using guns and suits."

Tickets are available from St Laurence school reception, or call 01225 309500.
