A CHILDREN’S play area in Bradford on Avon has re-opened today after it was suddenly closed on Monday.

Children were stopped from using the play area at Barton Farm Country Park off Pound Lane because it was deemed unsafe.

Wiltshire Council said the area underneath the main climbing frame needed more wood chippings. They said it was too risky if youngsters fell from play equipment onto the ground.

Wiltshire Council said the play area would remain closed for up to two weeks while they sourced some bark.

Bradford on Avon Town Council criticised the poor timing of the decision two weeks into the six-week summer holiday.

In June, town councillors had offered to pay 50% towards the £650 cost of buying the bark in order to prevent its closure.

The offer was made to ensure the safety work was done before the school holidays.

Parents took to social media to complain about the closure and councillors contacted the county council to get it re-opened quickly.

It seems the complaining worked, as Wiltshire Council delivered a lorry load of bark at the play area today to make it safe.

It has now re-opened so children can continue using it during the summer holidays.
