Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg was given a demonstration of the carbon composite wheels Dymag is going to be mass producing from next year thanks to a Government grant and loan package of £7.1m.
Watching the demonstration, in which the Liberal Democrat leader took part, were Duncan Hames, who hopes to retain the Chippenham constituency at the General Election on May 7, and Dymag’s chief executive Chris Shelley.
Composite engineer Craig Butler, who has worked at Dymag for 10 years, said: “I’ve seen the company go under and now we’re back again.
"Seeing it grow again, that’s what we all came back for and this money is definitely going to help.”
Mr Shelley told Mr Clegg at Dymag’s headquarters: “We won’t stay here [in Bumpers Farm]. It has to be in England, and we would like to stay local.
"We’ve got several contracts, so it’s all about where they want us to be located as much as anything else, but we would like to stay local.
“It will be six days a week 24-7, exporting to Japan, America and China.
“You might not see it [the wheel] on your Micra but you will certainly see it on all mainstream saloons because of the efficiency levels.”
