The glamour of Holly-wood came to Corsham, as pupils at one primary school took to the red carpet for their own Oscars ceremony.

Corsham Primary School held the glitzy awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the children and staff.

The school hall was decorated for the event, with golden statues to emulate the Academy Awards.

Executive headteacher Fiona Allen said: “This is a lovely event, made extra special to see the children’s faces when they are given an award surrounded by balloons, confetti and 7ft Oscars.”

The teachers attended wearing formal black tie and posh frocks for the presentation, held last Thursday.

Every class was presented with an award, including gongs for excellent animators, careful and considerate problem solvers, crafty creators, marvellous makers and most improved readers.

Deputy headteacher Kerry Parker said: “It was brilliant. The children had a really, really good time.

“They all thought it was so exciting.

“They were given plastic Oscar statues and a bag of treats each, while every class had a certificate they had been nominated for.”

Presenting the awards were two of Bath Rugby’s finest.

Flanker Tom Baldwin and hooker Will Tanner were on hand to show their support for the young winners.

Mrs Parker said: “We do a big ceremony like this every two years and this our third one.

“We want to make sure the children see we really appreciate all the effort they have made with their learning.”

As well as the pupils being rewarded, many of the teachers were also recognised with official accreditation awards.

They included honours to recognise a specialist leader of education, Bristol standard accreditation and outstanding teacher status.
