Corsham will be honouring one of its most successful residents next weekend, as five-times Paralympic medallist Stephanie Millward is presented with the freedom of the town.
Miss Millward, 31, who won four silvers and a bronze in the pool at London 2012, will be presented with the honour by Corsham town council chairman Peter Antsey at a public ceremony outside the town hall on Saturday March 2, after a parade along the high street.
The former Corsham School student will be flanked by students from the town’s primary schools, who have been preparing a special display to herald the occasion.
Corsham School head of PE Chris Smith said: “We started a young leaders programme with our year 9 students in September, as we wanted to encourage our high achievers. They have been organising things with the feeder primary schools, and practising their displays for the parade, as we wanted to make sure that Steph knows we appreciate all that she’s done.”
The Corsham town band will also be performing at the ceremony, which will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff of Wiltshire, as well as Jane Scott, leader of Wiltshire Council, and Duncan Hames MP.
Miss Millward, who has multiple sclerosis, will lead the parade from the Methuen Arms end of the High Street towards the town hall at 11.30am.
