Corsham library is looking to recruit book-loving volunteers as it prepares to move into a new modern home as part of the town's new community campus.

In July, the town’s library will make the move from its current location in Pickwick Road to Springfield campus in Beechfield Road.

It is appealing for volunteers to help deliver an extended library service, with volunteers initially sought for Monday and Wednesday mornings for a minimum of three hours.

Joan Davis, Wiltshire Council’s head of libraries, said: “Our library-support volunteers provide a friendly welcome to customers and assist with library routines.

"The role would suit someone who enjoys meeting people of all ages, has basic IT skills, a love of reading and would like to work in a brand new state-of-the art community facility.”

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for communities, campuses and libraries, said: “As the first campus in Wiltshire, Springfield has been developed to provide easy access to facilities and services for the community – the library is an important part of that mix, and volunteers will play a valuable role in helping to deliver an improved library service.”

Potential volunteers can find out more by attending a drop-in session at the existing library – these are taking place on Thursday 24 April (2 to 4pm) and Tuesday 29 April (10am to midday). Application packs are also available in the library.

Alternatively, further information and an application pack are available from Rebecca Bolton, outreach services manager, on 01225 713706 or rebecca.bolton@wiltshire.gov.uk

New volunteers will work alongside library staff as well as existing volunteers who currently help with providing a library service to housebound customers and with summer holiday reading schemes.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, May 7.
