Man named in A350 collision
4:19pm Friday 14th December 2012 in Melksham
The man injured on the A350 near Trowbridge on December 14 has been named at 52-year-old Paul Jenkins of Melksham.
Mr Jenkins was driving a blue Audi R8 towards Melksham when it left the road and collided with a tree. Police, paramedics, and fire crews from Trowbridge and Westbury attended the scene at 3.40pm. He was still conscious but was trapped in the car and suffering serious head injuries.
Fire crews worked for almost an hour to free Mr Jenkins from the wreckage, using hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the car’s roof in the process.
He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, by Wiltshire Air Ambulance around 6pm, and is still in a serious condition with his family at his side. They have paid tribute to the emergency services who saved his life, and the staff at Frenchay.
Mr Jenkins was driving alone and no one else was injured. The road was closed for five hours to allow specialist officers to examine the scene and recover the wreckage, which was removed around 9pm.
Any witnesses are urged to contact PC Scott Hill, from the serious collision investigation team, on 101, asking for Wiltshire police extension 7203112.
