POLICE are stepping up patrols near Melksham House after rubbish and wood chippings were set alight last Monday (March 23).
The incident happened by the tennis courts behind Market Place, scorching a tree near where a homeless man often sleeps.
PC Kane Fulbrook-Smith came across the flames just before 10.30pm after a member of the public reported youths were loitering in the area.
Plant pots were also smashed and thrown on Saturday, March 21 causing £50-£100 worth of damage.
Officers want to reassure residents and members of the bowls club that they are keeping an eye on the area.
