MELKSHAM postie Tara Harrold has scooped the title of Carnival Queen for this year’s procession after wowing judges during the ceremony last Sunday.
Miss Harrold, from Drynham Road, Trowbridge, was persuaded to enter the competition for the first time by friends and local businesses.
The 23-year-old, who classes herself as shy, says it has been a real confidence booster. She added: “It was amazing, I didn’t really expect it. It was a big deal for me going on stage and it made me feel really proud of myself.”
Carnival Princess was won by Lily Gibbs, the Glamorous Grandmother category was awarded to Eileen Taylor and Carnival Prince went to Lucas Burden.
Grace Povey, five, was chosen as Butterfly Princess and is the second family member to be part of the Carnival Royalty as mum Michelle Brightwell was Carnival Queen two years ago.
The Bonny Baby contest was won by two-year-old Lilly Norris who was awarded a giant teddy, trophy and money.
Photographer Andy York received a trophy too for his dedication in helping the carnival committee.
This year’s carnival will take place on July 18 from 6pm.
