TERRI Welch has been elected as Melksham mayor for another year, following a unanimous vote at the annual council meeting last night.

She was nominated by Councillor Jon Hubbard who was also nominated as deputy mayor but was pipped to the post by seven votes to eight by Councillor Pamela Wiltshire.

Cllr Welch previously served as mayor in 2004 and has lived in Melksham for more than 30 years. She is chair of the Town Team and is regularly involved with litter picks in the town and planting in churchyards.

She said: “I’m delighted to be able to serve the town for another year, I think an awful lot is happening this year, so it’s quite interesting to be involved with it.

“The community is my main concern, so it is good to be back.”

Cllr Wiltshire added: “Having chaired the town development committee for the past eight years and been chair of the Food Festival for six years, it is an honour to be able to represent the council as deputy mayor.”
