A PITCH perfect performance was put in by a Broughton Gifford singer after her new single was played on BBC Radio 2 this month.

Kate Lomas, of The Street, was in dreamland when her debut electronic pop track, Let's Just Be, was played on Dermot O'Leary's radio show on September 3.

This was made possible when the 21-year-old's mother Margaret wrote to the show to promote the track and after they accepted her pitch she herself appeared on the "Some Mothers Do Indie" slot to talk about her daughter's musical talent.

Now Ms Lomas, who began writing and singing her own songs since the age of 14, is hoping this can be the catalyst to future success.

"To get it onto BBC Radio 2 is a really great accomplishment and I am so happy with how well it has been received," said Ms Lomas, a former Corsham School pupil.

"We have been working on this track, drafting it and redrafting it, for so long, so to finally to get it out there is a wonderful.

"This has always been my dream to make it in this very competitive industry and this is the perfect platform to keep doing something I love."

Ms Lomas, who is about to start her final year of a degree in Song Writing in London, was completely taken aback when her mother's pitch had been accepted after she thought nothing would come of it.

"I knew she was doing it but I had no idea it would come off so I am very grateful to her as well as to my producer Guy Britton for his support," she said.

"To get the BBC interested, among others, is just great to get my name out there. I have got some gigs and some other projects coming up so it is very exciting."

Earlier this month, Ms Lomas released her debut EP (extended play), consisting of five songs, which has delighted her family and friends.

"I am absolutely thrilled for her. It was a lovely surprise that we made it onto the radio - she has worked so hard for this," said Mrs Lomas, who chatted with stand-in host Zoe Ball on the show.

"We have had a lot of positive feedback from the single and hopefully this can be the springboard to more future success."

The video for her second single, Tipsy, is also on Youtube and features a dance choreographed and performed by her cousin, Kayla Lomas-Kirton and her partner Duwane Taylor, who are both professional dancers, making it very much a family affair.
