THE family of Keiren Edney, who died from suspected meningitis, are still waiting to find out why he died.

The 21-year-old, known as Ned, died on Tuesday morning (September 13) on the way to Bath's Royal United Hospital but the family are still waiting to hear the final verdict.

"He had complained about having a sore throat on Monday night but otherwise he seemed fine, watching football and the Paralympics," said his mother Louise Edney.

"At around 8am the next morning, when he was getting up for work, my daughter Robyn told me to come see him quickly as he had turned a 'funny colour'.

"I saw that his skin had turned into a purple/blue colour and I knew something was very wrong.

"But surprisingly he was still lucid. He said, 'Why are you calling 999?'.

"Within 10 minutes he was walking down the stairs, where paramedics placed him onto a stretcher and took him into the ambulance and we went with him.

"On the drive in, his heart stopped beating and they were unable to revive him.

"They announced his passing just after 11. The ambulance crew and hospital staff were amazing. They tried everything but unfortunately they were unable to start his heart again.

"We are still waiting to hear from the emergency services as to what caused it."

His family, who run the Fisheries chip shop in Union Street, have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support following his death.

His father, Dale Edney, said: "He was more popular than we ever knew. The support has been phenomenal. He was a gentleman, just so polite and extremely kind."

Mrs Edney added: "He was a son to be very proud of. Keiren was a wonderful person. Wherever he went he would leave a positive impact on a person or place. He was very special."

More to follow.
