STAFF at Melksham Oak School in Bowerhill donned their neon headbands and danced the night away for a Strictly Come Dancing-style competition.

The annual event kicked off on Friday (November 25) at 7pm, featuring staff couples and an opening number involving staff and pupils. Starting with an opening dance number by the teachers, the event progressed into duets, all choreographed by the teachers themselves.

Tamsin Crook, drama and dance teacher at Melksham Oak, said: “Staff couples volunteered to take part in the show and we started rehearsing in September, meeting once a week. The theme for the show this year was Musical Theatre.

“Most of the staff were unable to meet every week however and rehearsals were often single dancers dancing their part with an invisible partner. We’ve had lots of incidents that affected rehearsals but were conquered, including a broken arm, though the member of staff danced anyway, a leg injury and bad illness.”

The team at Melksham Oak were also treated to a guest singer to accompany the dancing prowess of the staff.

“We also had a guest singer in the show this year - Joanna Deacon from professional duet The Decibelles, doing a fantastic cover of Something’s Got a Hold On Me,” added Mrs Crook.

“The show relies on the generosity of staff to help organise and run the event, leading up to and on the night. On top of that, students and ex-students volunteer to get involved and help out too. The show is always well received, is great fun and has a fantastic atmosphere. The audience is always packed full of students, their family and members of staff.”
