ONE of the UK’s leading retirement housebuilders, McCarthy and Stone, is set to launch its new retirement living development in Melksham this November.

The company has decided to name the site, Meadowsweet Place, in tribute to the local nature reserve, Conigre Mead, which is situated just a short distance from the development.

Conigre Mead, which started as a field of rough grass, was bought by the local community, who dedicated their time to transforming the space by digging ponds, clearing scrub and planting a mixture of trees and wildflowers.

The three-acre site, which overlooks the River Avon, was gifted to Wiltshire Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve in 1989 and is filled with a colourful array of meadowsweet. The nature reserve is fully accessible to the public and is enjoyed by people of all ages throughout the year.

Kim Caldwell, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone Southern, said: “The local community and volunteers have dedicated their time and effort into transforming Conigre Mead into the peaceful and picturesque surrounding that it is today, which is why we thought this would make a fitting tribute. We hope that our homeowners will make the most of being such a short distance away from the nature reserve, and will enjoy spending time there.”

“We are looking forward to becoming an integrated part of the community in Melksham, and we believe that our development will play a real part in helping to bring friends and family together in later life, something we feel is important and will bring lots of positive benefits to the area.”

Meadowsweet Place is under construction and will consist of 30 one and two bedroom apartments, alongside beautiful landscaped gardens and convenient on-site parking.

Aimed exclusively at people aged 60 and over, the development provides luxury retirement living, as well as independence in a safe and secure environment. It has an array of services and amenities nearby and is located less than 300 metres from Melksham Market Place.
