FAMILY and friends of a 10-year-old Melksham boy recovering from a brain tumour are trying to raise £2,000 to help send him on a holiday he will never forget.

In May, they plan to carry a dismantled tumble dryer to the top of the 3,560-feet tall Mount Snowdon, Britain’s highest peak, and then reassemble it to carry it back down in full working order.

The fundraising group will be led by Tyler’s grandfather, Jesse Challis, and a group of Hoover Candy management, engineers and friends.

They hope to raise at least £2,000 to help send Tyler, his mother, Christine Brunton, brother Malakai, five, and sister Tahliah, three, on holiday to Disneyland in Paris.

Christine, 32, of Crescent Road, Melksham, said: “Tyler has been absolutely amazing and incredibly brave. I could not be prouder of the way he has coped with his illness and his treatment.

“When he is strong enough to go, we want to be able to take him on a family holiday so that he can enjoy being a child again.”

In the past six months, the world for Tyler and his family has been turned upside down after he was diagnosed with a cancerous Medulloblastoma tumour at the base of his skull.

In August and September last year, Tyler suffered from constant headaches which were thought to be migraines.

In early September, Christine took him to see a local GP, who immediately referred him to specialists at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

A brain scan showed he had a cancerous tumour and Tyler was quickly transferred to the Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Over the past five months, he has undergone an operation to remove most of the tumour and radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment.

Tyler’s treatment is still ongoing. He has four rounds of chemotherapy left as well as regular physiotherapy to restore the movement on his left side following the surgery.

Christine added: “It has been a tough time for Tyler and for the family, who have been by his side every step of the way.

“He has shown such bravery and is making his family and friends so proud. He always has a smile on his face.”
