LOCAL retirement housebuilder, McCarthy & Stone, has helped raise the flag at the Avon Bowls Club in Melksham.

The company has given the club a welcome donation of new flags and a club badge.

It is building 31 one and two-bedroomed apartments at Meadowsweet Place in Spa Road, Melksham, and the donation forms part of its positive legacy for the local community.

Located in the grounds of Melksham House, Avon Bowls Club is a premier lawn bowls club with an enviable track record of success in the County and National Finals and has also played host to the English Bowls Association.

Alison Peacock, Sales Executive at Meadowsweet Place, joined Dawn Edwards, Chairman for Avon Bowls Club, for a ceremonious raising of the flag.

Dawn said: “We have an important and busy season ahead of us, and having a new flag is perfect for when we have match days and visitors to the green.”

“Support like this from local businesses is essential to ensuring the continued development of the club and we look forward to growing our relationship with McCarthy & Stone in the future.”

Alison Peacock said: “As a company, we appreciate that our responsibility is not only to build quality, purpose-built retirement properties, but also to create a positive legacy in the communities in which we build.

“The Avon Bowls Club is widely known within the region as a sociable group which provides somewhere for people to meet and make new friends.

“It’s a great benefit to the older people living in the Melksham area, especially our future homeowners once Meadowsweet Place is completed.

“We are delighted to be able to support such a worthy local cause.”
