It may have been wet outside but it did not stop the convoy of more than 50 motorcyclists delivering warm hot cross buns to the residents of Shaftesbury Court today.

It’s the fifth year the Wiltshire Bikers have visited the Trowbridge care home, which looks after 17 residents who have learning difficulties, as part of a Good Friday tradition.

It began after biker Tina Milburn, who used to be the care home’s activities co-ordinator, told the residents about the bike meets she would go on, so got in touch with founder of Wiltshire Bikers James Eades to see if they could come to the home.

She said: “I used to talk about bikes at work and they all used to want to come but our minibus can only hold about three wheelchairs, so I talked to James and said about bringing everyone here and it’s just got bigger and bigger.”

Now every Good Friday the bikers make the journey armed with hot cross buns to share with the residents who can also admire the bikes.

It is the second year 4 Counties Bikers have got involved with the hot cross bun run as well, which has members from Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bristol and Somerset.

Mr Eades added: “Five years ago, there was about 20 of us who came up on Good Friday and the residents spent the whole year saying when are the bikes coming back, so we thought we better do it again and now we do it every single year.

“They know what’s happening and that we are coming and they look forward to it all week. It’s brilliant, instead of just going out for a ride for our own benefit, it’s for someone else and seeing them and how happy they are when we turn up and remember us there’s a real feel-good factor.”
