THE BIG Community Grow is hoping to attract more people to its second BIG Seed Swap at Trowbridge Town Hall on Sunday (April 12), following the success of last year’s inaugural event.

The free event promotes gardening and environmental activities in the community and offers an opportunity to swap seeds and find out gardening advice from local expert Richard Cripps.

There will be stands from local groups including Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, Friends of Trowbridge Park and the West Wiltshire Bee Keeping Association.

Children will be able to get crafty with a range of free activities, including making flowers and planting seeds, while adults can get free advice and watch gardening demonstrations.

Mel Jacob and Jacky Good, who co-founded The BIG Community Grow, said: “We hope local families will come and enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake and look forward to a great year outdoors in their gardens and parks.

“Our aim is to give a range of stalls and activities that inspire members of the Trowbridge community to get outdoors, whether it’s in their own gardens or helping out with a local group.”

Anyone can bring along seeds to swap, including seeds collected from gardens or left over and unwanted seeds, with visitors able to swap their seeds for a packet they would rather have.

Mrs Jacob added: “Visitors are also invited to come and make something to add to our Community Tapestry. This is a project we have developed as part of the Magna Carta Celebrations and it will form a pictorial history of Trowbridge and be on display in the town for years to come.”

The BIG Community Grow is a very small not for profit organisation that is also responsible for the Trowbridge Apple Festival, The Trowbridge Big Lunch and the Community Garden in the park.

The event will run from 11am-3pm and for more information, visit www.bigcommunitygrow.org or email enquiries@bigcommunitygrow.org
