JUDGES were faced with a difficult decision for this year’s Trowbridge Carnival Royalty selection when it took place at Oasis Academy Longmeadow in Trowbridge.
The event’s committee saw an impressive turn out for the royalty selection, which aims to fill the positions of Butterfly Queen, Butterfly Princess and Carnival Consort for the annual town centre procession.
Kaitlyn Maddox, eight, of Paxcroft Primary School, was selected as the princess and Olivia Bygraves, 10, of North Bradley Primary School, was selected as the queen, while Henry Butler, seven, of Staverton Primary School, was selected as carnival consort.
As well as taking part in the annual town centre procession in October, the carnival royalty will be expected to attend events in the build up to the carnival.
Maryrose Mantle, carnival committee chairman, said: “We had a very good turn out this year and we even had a few boys to choose from, which is quite rare.
“It was a very relaxed event and the children were asked some questions and allowed to talk about what interests them and what they know about the carnival.
“The judges had a really difficult decision and it was really hard for them to choose just three of the children, but unfortunately that is the most we can pick. The three who were chosen did a great job and they really impressed the judges.”
The next Trowbridge Carnival fundraising event will be a bowls day on May 25 at Trowbridge Town Bowls Club from 10.30am. The competition is open to all bowls players from the casual amateur to the experienced bowler and costs £12 per team of four.
