A TOUCH of Hollywood glam was brought to St Augustine’s Year 11 prom on Monday night.

Around 140 pupils and 30 staff put on their best glad rags for the end of year celebrations to mark the academic successes of students who have just completed their GCSEs.

Daniel Taylor, head of Year 11 said despite a drizzly start, the night was a huge success.

He added: “It went really well and the students really enjoyed themselves. Everyone made a real effort and they all dressed up nicely and they all looked rather grown up.

“All the Year 11’s had their last exam on Friday and so this was the first chance for them to come together.

“Some of the kids definitely arrived in style and one person turned up in a tractor.

“We have pupils going on to different things, courses and colleges and so it was quite funny that one of our students turned up in a brand new Massey Ferguson tractor and he is off to do a farming placement.”

As well as turning up in a traditional tractor, other pupils arrived in an imaginative array of different ways including in sports cars.

Mr Taylor added: “Across the evening there were some speeches by students who paid farewell to their tutors before they left and a couple from each class spoke which was great to see.

“I also delivered a speech on the night, mostly to thank all the teachers and tutors as well as the students for working so hard. We have been very impressed with them in the last few weeks because they have been coming in on Saturdays to cram in extra revision so we are very proud of them during this exam period.

“The night was also a chance to wish them good luck for the future and because I have only been head of Year 11 for two years I have been able to see them progress.”

Around 90 pupils are set to return to St Augustine’s in September to start Sixth Form.
