A YOUNG woman in her twenties was assaulted in a Trowbridge alleyway in the early hours of this morning. 

At approximately 4.40am (Sunday), a woman was found injured in the alleyway in Seymour Court by two members of the public who used the victim's phone to call 999 and ask for an ambulance.

Paramedics attended the scene and the victim received medical treatment for injuries to her legs and arms and a minor head injury.

DS Guy Williams who is investigating the incident said: "An investigation is underway to ascertain the full circumstances of this incident and my officers have been examining the scene throughout the day. Further house to house enquiries and CCTV analysis will be carried out this evening and into next week.

"I would like to appeal for anyone who was in the area of Seymour Court between 4.30-5am this morning to contact us. It is important for us to gather as much information from the public as possible.

"I would particularly like to speak to the two members of the public who found the victim and called 999 as they may have vital details which could assist the investigation. I ask that they contact police urgently."

Wiltshire Police have since issued personal safety advice to the public. They ask that the public make sure someone knows where they are going, who they are with and what time they are likely to return home. 

DS Williams continued: "I would like to reassure the local community that enhanced patrols of the area are in place and we are conducting a thorough investigation.Residents are likely to see police activity in the area over the coming days as officers carry out further enquiries and we appreciate the assistance of the community."
