A Trowbridge woman who was driving her Vauxhall Corsa along the road she lived on has been disqualified from driving for three years and offered a place on a drink driving course at North Wiltshire Magistrates Court.

The court was told on Thursday how Lisa Michelle Riley, 27, of Helmsley Road was followed by police to a car park near Helmsley Road and arrested on July 18 after they received reports of an erratic driver.

When they conducted a roadside breath test, the 27-year-old mother recorded 55 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath which exceeded the legal limit.

"This wasn't meant to happen," Riley told the magistrates. "I work 15 miles away and my son goes to school five miles away and I have to get back early as I work nights to take him to school."

Passing sentence, chair of the bench Maria Pitt disqualified Riley from driving for three years but also offered her a place on the drink driving course which would reduce her disqualification by 36 weeks.

She was also fined £350 and ordered to pay £85 in costs and a victim surcharge of £35.
