WALWAYNE Court Primary have taken the top spot across the board in this year's Trowbridge in Bloom thanks to their colourfully-decorated floral artwork throughout the school.

In a total of six categories, the school were awarded first place with their success being put down to their Pride in Our School days which aims to try and get pupils to tidy up their grounds.

With giant paint tubes that have red and yellow flowers spilling out of them and a grand piano water feature, the school definitely has something to showcase according to headteacher Bev Kenyon.

She said: “I think it is a tremendous achievement with Trowbridge in Bloom and the fact they have pride and want to show it off to others is great.

“We had an assembly last Monday and we told them the results and they were absolutely delighted.

“It is hard work from the whole of the community from parents and staff and they have both given up their time over the weekends so it is a collective effort from everyone that we have been able to achieve such a result.”

Walwayne came out on top across the board in the competition in areas including energy and recycling, litter campaigning, environmental art and healthy eating.

Teacher Becky Mould added that the children have taken great ownership in making the school ready for TiB judging – something which she hopes to continue into the future.

She said: “The whole idea of pride in our school days is to give the children a big push in making sure the school is looking tidy and that we are proud in our environment both inside and out.

“The initiative is such an amazing way to get the children working together and the children have taken real ownership of it and pride in what they have achieved and it does look stunning.

“The whole school works towards our motto of ‘be your best, nothing less’ and we want them to be able to do their best outside of school and take what they learn away with them.

“Looking to the future, I am setting up a new arts council and last year we had over 80 children wanting to be a part of it. We are also going to do a whole school arts project which is tied with PHSE.”
