YOUNG players from Trowbridge Rugby Club had the opportunity to not only watch a match at the home of England rugby at the weekend but play on the hallowed turf too.

On Saturday, 56 players from Trowbridge RFC's youth set-up embarked on a trip to Twickenham to play matches on the famous pitch before watching Bath Rugby v Leicester Tigers.

Julie Sheppard, the U11’s team administrator, said: “We received an email asking if we wanted to play a few games on the pitch a few months ago and of course we said yes – who would say no?

“It was such a fantastic experience for all of us.

“The kids had such a great time and enjoyed every minute.

“After they played their matches, we all enjoyed some food and live music at The Forum, near Twickenham, before heading back to the stadium.

“The kids then joined the tunnel of noise to welcome Bath’s team bus to the ground which they absolutely loved.

“We then took up our seats – thankfully in the shade as it was a very hot day – and enjoyed watching the exciting match, which Bath thankfully won.”

Bath ended up coming away winners from the match, dubbed The Clash, after fighting back to beat their fierce rivals 27-21 in the late stages of the game.

Trowbridge RFC will finish their season with a final training session on Sunday, April 30 with the minis end of season award presentation taking place on Sunday, May 14 along with a family fun day and BBQ which is open to the public.

Registration for the new season begins on Sunday, September 3 but there will be fun training sessions in August and the club would like to welcome new members to the club.
