THERE is still no mention of Trowbridge getting the swimming pool it was promised despite Wiltshire Council getting £700,000 to redevelop the sites opposite County Hall and in Ashton Street.
This week the authority announced it had received £600,000 from the government to go towards the East Wing site in Bythesea Road, and £100,000 to demolish an old council building in Ashton Street, which will then be sold off to developers.
But the promise made by then cabinet member for leisure Cllr Stuart Wheeler, in 2010, to build a water park and leisure is still not being talked about.
These plans, which include building a health centre, shops, restaurant and housing, could cost between £12-20m but no set figure has been announced.
Several million will come from Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group for a health centre and the rest is likely to come from taxpayers’ money, selling housing land to developers and the Ashton Street site being sold off, among other things.
The work at the East Wing site includes removing asbestos there and sewer works.
When Cllr Wheeler made that announcement, he said a pool would be built in the summer of 2017.
