Police are appealing for information after a 33-year-old man had his jaw broken in an unprovoked assault at Warminster station.

The attack happened at around 9pm on Saturday, May 17, while the victim waited for a train with a woman on platform one.

He was using a ticket machine when he was approached by a large group of men.

One of them punched the victim who then fell backwards into the ticket machine.

The suspect then ran off, boarding a train heading in the Trowbridge/Bath direction with the rest of the group.

Detective Sergeant Lisa Jones, of British Transport Police, Bristol, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack which left the victim with a broken jaw and two fractures.

“He is now recovering but required surgery for his injuries and will have to live with the trauma of what happened.

“While I would like to reassure the public that this type of incident is rare, I would also stress that we will not tolerate any violence on the rail network.

“I am determined to find the man who carried out this act of violence and am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed it or can help identify the man who carried out the attack.”

If you witnessed the attack, or have any other information which could help, call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or ring Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote log GSUB/B2 of 30/05/2014.
