WARMINSTER man Haydon Tryhorn is beginning to prove himself after graduating from a Craft Apprentice-ship Programme with the local branch of Morrisons to become a fully qualified baker.

The 21-year-old, a former pupil at Kingdown School in Warminster, enrolled on the Bakery Craft Apprenticeship Programme in September 2013 and over the past 13 months he has acquired the skills and experience needed.

Mr Tryhorn’s course involved four weeks studying at University College Birmingham alongside expert tutors, and he is now a fully qualified baker at the Weymouth Street store.

He has also undergone practical training, including everything from selecting and mixing ingredients, proving and moulding dough, to baking and quality checking breads.

Mr Tryhorn, who lives in Prestbury Drive, Warminster, said: “I have found the apprentice experience thoroughly enjoyable and very educational.

“I have most enjoyed the bakery production in store, as well as working as part of a large team.”

Mr Tryhorn now helps bake some of the 38 different breads made in the store every day.

Mickey Greenhalgh, head of craft and functional skills at Morrisons Academy, said: “We are thrilled Haydon has completed his Craft Apprenticeship in Bakery. He has worked extremely hard and graduated with flying colours.”

The apprenticeship programme supports the supermarket’s drive to provide trade skills and knowledge. To date Morrisons has successfully trained 1,400 bakers and 600 butchers.
