VOLUNTEERS from Warminster’s Multiple Sclerosis Centre are giving up their time today to raise funds and awareness as part of a national campaign.

The centre, at Bradbury House, The Ave, is holding a number of activities all day with groups in the community as part of MS Awareness Week.

A tombola is currently taking place in The Three Horseshoes Walk until 1pm but a super market collection will be run at Morrisons all day at Weymouth Street.

Pupils at local schools are also raising funds by holding a non-uniform day with all the money raised going towards the running costs of the centre, which treats patients suffering from the neurological condition.

Tori Alison, community fundraiser at the centre, said: “This is always a popular event and all the items for the tombola have been donated by our members, many of whom can’t come and stand here for a long time but want to contribute.

“It’s more about awareness than raising money and making sure that people know about us.

“It’s really important to raise the awareness, when we do this we get people with MS coming to us who have never heard of us before.”

Warminster town crier Phil Seddon, who has been at the event for the past four years, said: “Warminster has the best MS centre in the country and we want to keep it that way and the only way to keep funding things anymore is to keep rattling the buckets.

“People here giving up there time, it all helps keep social and local things going.”
