VOLUNTEERS from Warminster’s Multiple Sclerosis Centre raised more than £850 last Friday as part of MS Awareness Week.

Held for the fourth year, the Warminster Awareness Day is run by the centre, at Bradbury House, The Ave, who hosted a number of activities throughout the day.

This included a tombola that took place in The Three Horseshoes Walk, where shoppers were able to win items from tins of soup to bottles of wine while listening to the voice of town crier Phil Seddon, who has helped out at the event for the past four years.

He said: “Warminster has the best MS centre in the country and we want to keep it that way and the only way to keep funding things anymore is to keep rattling the buckets.

“People here giving up there time, it all helps keep social and local things going.”

A super market collection also took place at Morrisons, Weymouth Street, and pupils at local schools also raised funds by holding a non-uniform day.

All the money raised from the day will go towards the running costs of the centre, which treats patients suffering from the neurological condition, and for the new therapy garden which is due to open in June.

Tori Alison, community fundraiser at the centre, said: “This is always a popular event and all the items for the tombola have been donated by our members, many of whom can’t come and stand here for a long time but want to contribute.

“It’s more about awareness than raising money and making sure that people know about us.

“It’s really important to raise the awareness, when we do this we get people with MS coming to us who have never heard of us before.”

Rosie Eliot, the centre manager said: “The people of Warminster always come and support their local charity, a huge thank you to Phil, he always comes to help us and his voice always lets everyone know we are here.”
