WARMINSTER’S first Junior Civic Award, created to recognise the voluntary work that young people do in the community, has been awarded.

Emily Clarke was presented with the award at the Civic Centre on October 16 for her work as a young leader with the 7th Warminster Brownie Pack and Girl Guiding Association.

Presenting the award, Warminster Mayor Sue Fraser said: “Emily is described as a very competent young leader who has grown over the last 11 years into this role from a shy and retiring little girl.

“She has been a constant and invaluable asset to the pack and attends every week to willingly help in whatever is required.

“She plans, prepares, comes equipped and runs entire evening events and the other girls love her easygoing leadership qualities.

“She helps out at charity events, pack holidays, sleepovers, days out and official events. Emily is an inspiration to those around her and her dedication greatly helps in making a difference to the young girls in the Guiding movement.”

As well as the Junior Civic Award, the Civic Award was also presented to the former members of the Christmas Lights Committee for the work they have done over the years after the group disbanded in March.

Mayor Fraser added: “The Town Council is extremely grateful for the legacy the Christmas Lights Committee has left to ensure that the town continues to benefit from the amazing display.

“Volunteers do not always wish to become the centre of attention, but for all of those people who have had a long association with this magnificent team, they truly deserve the Civic Award this year in recognition of the contribution made to the community.”
