PARENTS and children worked together at the weekend at activity fun days at The Avenue Primary School in Warminster.

More than 100 people attended the two-day event which included the construction of an outdoor learning area, a new gazebo, memorial garden with seats and a playpod.

Each of the projects were themed around the school’s four houses – Birch, Sycamore, Willow and Oak – with £2,500 being raised to fund the event.

Louise Kilminster, organiser of the project and a teacher at the school, said: “The turnout from the children, parents and their extended families was fabulous. There was a brilliant atmosphere around school with everybody pitching in DIY SOS style.

“The end result is amazing. We now have four new areas for the children to use thanks to the great contributions from children, parents and staff working together.”

Headteacher Stuart Porter said: “It was fantastic. I’m really surprised what they have done here in two days.

“The idea came from the student leadership group and we asked children to design something and we chose the winning designs which were built.

“The parents gave up one or even two days of their weekend to do something to benefit the school and it’s about trying to engage more with parents.”
