WARMINSTER School welcomed the One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge on Tuesday as they look to cover 470 miles from Land’s End to the East End and raise money for Children in Need.

Led by presenter Matt Baker, the challenge is being taken on by six young people who have all been supported by Children in Need funded projects in the past.

Now in its fifth year, the challenge has already raised £7.9 million with this year’s challenge starting on November 6 and due to finish today (Friday, November 13).

And at the start of their 74 mile journey between Bristol and Winchester on day five, the team stopped off at the Wiltshire school to meet staff and students.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Baker said: “Everyone at Warminster School was absolutely amazing. It really makes a big difference to see so many smiling faces as we ride into a new location as it really spurs myself and Team Rickshaw on.

“We set off at 2am, we've had quite a long ride but it's all going incredibly well – we do a bit of a 'rickshaw relay' with the riders.

“I think we're pretty much on time and the plan for tonight is to do a live link-up with The One Show in Winchester, where Team Rickshaw will be turning on the Christmas Lights.”

Headmaster at Warminster School, Mark Mortimer, said: “We were delighted to welcome and support the Rickshaw Challenge Team this morning. It is an impressive feat and we wish them good luck for the rest of their journey.”
